Waterloo man arrested after investigation into shooting incident

WATERLOO – Police conducted an investigation into a Waterloo shooting incident, obtained a warrant, and tracked down their suspect.

On November 18, 2022, at approximately 10:52 AM, Waterloo patrol officers were dispatched to the 600 block of Sycamore Street on a report of multiple shots being fired. On arrival, patrol officers located multiple shell casings and two vehicles nearby that were involved in the altercation. Upon speaking to multiple witnesses and reviewing video from the scene, Waterloo detectives were able to obtain a warrant for 20-year-old Laindrell Cooper for felon in control of a firearm.

On February 21, 2023, at approximately 4:40 PM, members of the Departments Violent Crime Apprehension Team (VCAT) observed Cooper leaving 1008 Logan Ave. VCAT and patrol officers were able to take Cooper into custody on the Felony warrant and a Violation of Probation warrant. A search warrant was executed at the 1008 address and a firearm was recovered.
