AUSTIN, MN – Schools in Minnesota this past week were victimized by hoax calls threatening shootings.
Police in Austin, Minnesota, were among those in the state who responded to calls of an active shooter at a school. Officers went to the Austin High School Wednesday morning, September 21. It was later determined to be unfounded. According to the Chief of Police, the caller, however, gave dispatch specific information on the location of the incident, the number of injured, and type of weapon. Dispatch immediately gave out the call to the Police Department and Sheriff Office. A school resource officer was on site and an police detective and two of patrol officers were in the immediate area, responding to the building immediately.
Evidently, a similar type of call was made in Rochester, as well, and “many in Minnesota victimized by this caller (or callers) hoax,” according to Austin Chief of Police David McKichan.
