MASON CITY – A Violent storm ripped through Mason City in the last few hours, causing widespread damage, including total destruction in some places.
The storm could be felt throughout much of Western and Northern Iowa as it began to gather force Tuesday. AS the evening wore on, winds got stronger, rain got heavy. A tornado was reported near Britt and Humboldt. Folks were sent to take cover.
Mason City got hit hard. Power lines remain down around town. Poles are blocking the road on 245th street and S Kentucky.
“Fair Meadows neighborhood especially hard hit,” a resident told NIT. A huge tree fell on a house, causing major damage.
People are currently sorting through their belongings at the self storage next to the old Rose Bowl, now Barnhart Crane. The building is in shambles.
This is a developing story as Mason City and North Iowa put the pieces back together.
