
MASON CITY – The NIACC softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with Marshalltown CC on Tuesday afternoon on the extremely windy NIACC campus.
NIACC won the first game 14-13 by scoring a single run in its half of the seventh inning. Marshalltown CC won the second game 12-2.
In the first game, NIACC’s Kayla Noelker drove in Sydney Toman with the winning run with one out in the bottom of the seventh inning. Toman led off the seventh inning with a single, stole second base, moved to third base on a sacrifice bunt by Ravyn Krachey. Toman then beat a throw home on Noelker’s ground ball to the shortstop.
NIACC scored four runs in the first innng, The Trojans also plated four runs in the fourth inning, three runs in the sixth inning and single runs in the third, fifth and seventh innings.
In the second game, Marshalltown CC scored five runs in the fifth inning and also added three runs in the seventh inning.
NIACC scored single runs in the sixth and seventh innings.
NIACC (3-21 overall) returns to action Friday and Saturday in a four-game ICCAC series at Kirkwood.
