Women’s College Cross Country: Iowa State promotes Rudolph to head coach

AMES – Amy Rudolph has been promoted to Head Women’s Cross Country Coach, Iowa State Director of Track and Field/Cross Country Jeremy Sudbury announced Wednesday. Rudolph’s promotion comes after another outstanding season for the Cyclone women’s squad, with ISU taking ninth as a team at the NCAA Cross Country Championships last month.

“Coach Rudolph and our women’s Cross country team had an incredible Fall 2021 due to their brilliance in progressing through the whole season and saving their best two performances for the Big 12 and NCAA Championships,” Sudbury said. “The past three years, I have seen Amy continue to put her brand on the women’s cross country team, which has had an incredible tradition and I am looking forward to see her continue to build on that success for many more years to come.”

Finishing up her fourth cross country season with the Cyclones last month, Rudolph and the Cyclones had an incredible season, going from a pre-season ranking of No. 30 to an eventual ninth place finish at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, the Cyclone women’s team’s highest finish since 2014.

Once again, her star and leader was Cailie Logue, who picked up her second career cross country All-America honor with a fourth place finish at the NCAA Championships. Logue was the winner of the NCAA Midwest Regional for a third time in her career and took second at the Big 12 Championships to earn All-Big 12 honors for a fifth time. Across cross country and track and field, Logue has earned four All-America honors and 10 Big 12 titles under Rudolph’s tutelage.

The Cyclone women had four USTFCCCA All-Midwest Region honorees, with Logue being joined by Ashley Tutt, Dana Feyen and Madelynn Hill. In addition, all four of them plus Winrose Chesang and Janette Schraft earned All-Big 12 honors.

In total under Rudolph, the ISU women’s cross country has qualified for the NCAA Championships as a team three times, won two Big 12 titles (and came within one point of a third this season) and has picked up 17 All-Big 12 XC honors.
