RURAL DALLAS COUNTY, IOWA – An Iowa couple is dead this morning after the driver of the Harley Davidson motorcycle they were on decided to flee a pursuing deputy.

The Iowa State Patrol says that the accident occurred on the evening of August 29, 2020.  At about 5:11 PM, 36-year-old Thomas F. Kennedy of Waukee, Iowa was driving a 2012 Harley Davidson motorcycle with a passenger, 36-year-old Rachel L. Glissman, also of Waukee.  As Kennedy drove northbound on 360th Street near 360th Pl. the patrol says Kennedy was being pursued by a sheriff’s deputy. Kennedy failed to negotiate the curve n the road and the Harley went off the road left and crossed 360th Pl., entering into the ditch where it came to rest.  Neither Kennedy nor Glissman was wearing a helmet, the patrol says.  Both perished in the crash.

Iowa court records indicate Thomas F. Kennedy was charged with second offense operating while intoxicated in Dallas county in 2019.  In a plea deal approved by Iowa judge Virginia Cobb, he was guilty of only first-offense operating while intoxicated.  He was supposed to serve a year in jail but all but four days of incarceration were suspended in the deal.  Records also indicated he was fined and was to abstain from alcohol and lost his driver’s license.
