Possible drug dealers nabbed after pursuit in Mason City Monday morning

MASON CITY – Two North Iowa men were nabbed after they attempted to elude law enforcement during an attempted traffic stop in Mason City early Monday morning, yielding several illicit illegal drugs and paraphernalia.

On February 3, 2020 at 1:21 AM, a Cerro Gordo County deputy initiated a traffic stop on a blue 2001 Dodge Neon at the intersection of 1st Street SW and Crescent Drive for an equipment violation. The Dodge Neon refused to stop and attempted to elude law enforcement for several minutes. The vehicle ran several stop signs and speeds were 20 mph over the speed limit at times. When the vehicle pursuit came to the intersection of 4th Street SE and S Illinois Avenue, the vehicle turned east on 4th Street SE. The Deputy at that time executed a pursuit intervention technique and safely ended the pursuit causing only vehicle damage to both the patrol car and the Dodge Neon.

The driver, Eugene Sikora, age 34 of Sheffield and passenger Cody Dakin, age 24 of Mason City, were both taken into custody. Both suspects were taken to the MercyOne emergency room to be evaluated but were shortly released.

A search warrant was executed on the vehicle and methamphetamine, marijuana and psilocybin mushrooms were located in the vehicle as well as other items consistent with the illegal sale of controlled substances.

Cody Dakin was charged with possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, a Class C Felony; possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, a Class D Felony; possession of psilocybin mushrooms 3rd offense, a Class D Felony; and possession of drug paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor. Dakin also had a valid warrant for his arrest for voluntary absence from custody.

Eugene Sikora was charged with eluding, a serious misdemeanor; along with several traffic violations.

Mason City police assisted in this incident.
