Inmate starts fire, attacks guard at Fort Dodge prison

doc.iowa.gov

FORT DODGE – A correctional officer was assaulted by an inmate at the Fort Dodge Correctional Facility at approximately 10:15 p.m. Sunday night.

The officer was responding to a cell where inmates had started a fire. When the officer opened the door to the cell, an inmate began striking the officer with close fists and kicks. When the inmate attempted to attack another officer, oleoresin capsicum spray (pepper spray) was used to subdue the aggressive inmate. Staff immediately used a fire extinguisher to put out the fire in the cell, and no damages or injuries were reported as a result of the fire.

The officer that was assaulted was evaluated and treated by institution medical staff for their injuries. The inmate appeared to have not suffered any injuries.

This incident remains under investigation.

The inmate that you say deserved to be beats is my son who is only 21 years old and was put in prison because a girlfriend who was mad at him decided to report her car as missing and he has been put in prison with some very very violent bad men and I’m not so sure that he even touched a guard and if he did I’m sure he was made to do so he’s not even 5 foot 7 tall maybe 130 lbs if that

Two questions: Was the guard male or female? Aren’t guards taught to take care of themselves?

I’m thinking that the inmate should have suffered some injuries.

Hope so!

For sure. Inmate should get some memories other than “Gee, that was fun, let’s do it again!!”
