Boy hurt when school bus slides off icy road in Mitchell county

RURAL MITCHELL COUNTY – A boy was hurt when a school bus slid off an icy road in Mitchell county Wednesday morning.

A school bus from the Osage School District was westbound on 316th Street, west of
Jersey Avenue on Wednesday, March 13 at about 9:25 AM. According to a report from the Iowa State Patrol, after cresting a small hill, the bus slid off the road due to wet/icy conditions. The bus then struck a power line causing the power lines to land on the bus. Apparently, students had to stay on the bus for an indeterminate amount of time until the a power company verified power was turned off. The
students were then evacuated from the bus and taken to an Osage school.

A ten-year-old boy was transported by EMS to the Mitchell County Regional Health.
