Mason City library

MASON CITY – The Mason City Public Library is currently closed due to construction.

The library has a tentative reopening date of Monday, December 17, 2018 at 9:00 AM.

The Mason City Library underwent a $9.2 million renovation that was completed in 2010. The end product was a beautiful structure that the community has been proud of, but has been costly to maintain. Library management has sought creative ways over the years to keep costs down and run the library efficiently. Recent roof problems have allowed water to enter the structure and cause damage that must be repaired.

  1. So they rehire the same contractor that did the remodel. They should be fixing it under warranty. Wait this is the same contractor that would have benefited it G-8 built the hotel. Wait this contractor would have benefited if the hog plant was built. I think I am starting to see a pattern.

  2. We keep dumping tons of money into these old buildings, why? 9.2 million just to renovate???? A brand new building would have cost a similar amount, and we wouldnt be having to dump more money into it this soon. Keep these buildings around, and the lifetime cost of repairs will outweigh the old buildings nostalgia for the older generations that are quickly dying off around here.
