CEDAR RAPIDS – Two Guatemalan brothers who share the same name and who each unlawfully used a fraudulent identification document to get work in Iowa were sentenced last week to more than two months apiece in federal prison.

Jacinto Raymundo-Rivera, age 22, a citizen of Guatemala illegally present in the United States and residing in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, received the prison term after a May 23, 2018 guilty plea to one count of unlawful use of an identification document. At the guilty plea, Raymundo-Rivera, an illegal alien, admitted that on October 8, 2014, he used a fraudulent Green Card when completing employment forms to get a job in Cedar Rapids. The social security account number and the Green Card number used by Raymundo-Rivera belonged to other people.

Both brothers were sentenced in Cedar Rapids by Chief United States District Court Judge Leonard T. Strand. Each brother was sentenced to 77 days imprisonment. Each brother must also serve a one-year term of supervised release after the prison term. There is no parole in the federal system.
Both brothers are being held in the United States Marshal’s custody until they can be turned over to immigration officials.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Daniel C. Tvedt and investigated by the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, Enforcement and Removal Operations.

doesn’t make sense “Each brother was sentenced to 77 days imprisonment. Each brother must also serve a one-year term of supervised release after the prison term” they are here illegally so we gunna keep them 77 days and when they get out keep them for another year so they can complete parole???
At least they were willing to work and pay taxes and support their families. There are many “citizens” who could do the same. What about their employer or the people that got them the fake SS numbers and green cards??
But, there is a right way to do it. The generation in my family who came to this country had to do what was necessary to become a citizen. They took on jobs at the meat packing plants (where so many immigrants like themselves started out) to get established. And they moved on from that as fast as they could.
I hold no resentment to those who come here to better their lot in life. But all I ask, in fact I am willing to say, most people ask, they do it legally. Sneaking in the back door is not they way to do it.
77 days is all??? Another huge waste of tax-payer money, time and effort.
These guys both found work and had SS numbers. That means they paid taxes. Why send them to prison? Send them back or get them a green card.
Stolen identities allow illegal immigrants to buy guns and vote. I have seen them shopping for guns at local stores.
Hey Earl….. you are full of s*it and we dont buy your BS.
