BRETT M. KAVANAUGH
President Trump makes the big announcement Monday night.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Monday night, President Donald J. Trump announced his intent to nominate Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit to fill the Supreme Court vacancy created by Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement, the White House reported.

“The nomination of Judge Kavanaugh comes after a selection process marked by a historic degree of transparency, including the President’s public disclosure of a list of 25 highly qualified potential nominees for the Supreme Court,” the White House said in a statement.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) tonight made the following comment on President Trump’s nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh to replace retiring Justice Anthony Kennedy on the U.S. Supreme Court.

“Judge Kavanaugh is one of the most qualified Supreme Court nominees to come before the Senate. His credentials are well known, and he’s served with distinction as a judge on the esteemed D.C. Circuit for more than a decade. He is a superb mainstream candidate worthy of the Senate’s consideration,” Grassley said.

“As we have always done when reviewing nominees for lifetime-appointed judgeships, the Senate Judiciary Committee will conduct a fair and comprehensive evaluation of the nominee’s background and qualifications followed by hearings where we’ll hear directly from the nominee as we fulfill our advice and consent responsibility.”

Brett Kavanaugh currently serves as judge on the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit in Washington. He was confirmed for the judgeship in 2006 after being nominated by President George W. Bush.

Judge Kavanaugh previously served in the White House Counsel’s Office and then as the White House Staff Secretary under President Bush. He also served as Associate Counsel in the Office of Independent Counsel under Ken Starr.

Judge Kavanaugh received a Bachelor of Arts from Yale University in 1987 and then a Juris Doctor from Yale Law School in 1990. He clerked for two federal appeals court judges and Supreme Court Justice Anthony Kennedy. He also worked in private practice in Washington, D.C.

Meanwhile, a prominent Iowa lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) organization – One Iowa – Urged Sen. Grassley to Reject Brett Kavanugh’s Nomination to the Supreme Court. One Iowa Executive Director Daniel Hoffman-Zinnel issued this statement following the nomination:

“President Trump’s clear disdain for an independent judiciary makes it crucial that the Senate confirm only a fair-minded constitutionalist who will keep the White House in check and protect the rights of LGBTQ people, people of color, women, and many others. “Kavanaugh does not meet that criteria, and in fact his record indicates he is quite the opposite. We urge Sen. Grassley to uphold his responsibility as Chair of the Judiciary Committee and not move forward with this nomination.”

Progress Iowa, a liberal Iowa political group, said, “Kavanaugh passed every litmus test instituted by Trump, from a commitment to overturn Roe v. Wade, taking away women’s rights, to undermining and overturning the Affordable Care Act and its health care protections for the 130 million Americans with a pre-existing condition. But Trump could have found a number of anti-woman, anti-health care nominee anywhere. With Kavanaugh, Trump gets someone who has argued that a sitting President should not be indicted. Let that sink in – President Trump is the subject of a criminal investigation, and he just nominated a potential Supreme Court justice who would prevent him from being indicted. This is serious, but it’s a fight we can win.”

Former President George W. Bush said, “President Trump has made an outstanding decision in nominating Judge Brett Kavanaugh to the Supreme Court. Brett is a brilliant jurist who has faithfully applied the Constitution and laws throughout his 12 years on the D.C. Circuit. He is a fine husband, father, and friend – and a man of the highest integrity. He will make a superb Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States.”

Elizabeth Warren

Liberal Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren blasted the Presdient’s pick, saying, “You can count me as a NO vote. We already knew that Trump’s nominee would come from a list pre-screened by right-wing extremists, so make no mistake: Brett Kavanaugh was chosen because conservatives are confident that he would overturn Roe v. Wade. Brett Kavanaugh’s record as a judge and lawyer is crystal clear, and he would do even more damage on the Supreme Court: He opposed letting a young immigrant woman get prompt access to a legal abortion, and he’s argued that sitting Presidents should be exempt from lawsuits and criminal investigations or prosecution while in office – wouldn’t Donald Trump love that? And if that’s not enough, get this: He believes that the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is unconstitutional, he tried to strike down net neutrality, and he’s worked to make it harder for federal watchdogs to hold corporate criminals accountable and protect public health, safety, and economic security. The stakes couldn’t be higher.”

  1. I have a bad feeling on this pick. I think he may turn into a liberal douche as time goes by. I hope I’m wrong

  2. America has a bright future. Wished I would have voted for President Trump. I will dam sure vote for him the next time.

Hillary Clinton should be in jail. The dirty cops in the FBI and Justice Department protected her and have subverted our justice system. The swamp is much dirtier and deeper than any of us thought.

This was a good choice for our Supreme Court.

      1. While it’s true the Democrats were the originators of Ku Klux Klan but they had me fooled into thinking they had changed their ways. I have come to realize just how “racist” the Democratic Party is. They have a lot of people fooled. Now they are not only more racist but pushing Marxism, Socialism and Fascist agendas. Makes no sense.

Here we have the liberals wanting all these illegal immigrants that are RUNNING AWAY from Socialist and Oppressive countries to come to America and the Democrats want to turn America into a Socialist Oppressive country. Makes no sense.

Democrats are leaving their party in droves and the stupid liberal leadership don’t get it.

    1. Whining and crying and fear mongering is all you Democrats do. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

      1. Definition of Democrat Stupidity: Knowing the TRUTH, seeing the evidence of the TRUTH, but still believing the LIE.

  3. Hillary in 2020. And while their at it throw Warren on the ticket too. Poor Ms Hillary is being baited by guess who. She cannot resist the slander tossed her way. She’s in and hell bent on a win. This court nomination did it. They are going after abortion no doubt about it. Do these justices have a pecking order, you bet. It’s an exclusive club. And what if another goes down and is replaced by you know who. A classic example of baiting someone. And unfortunately she’s taken it. This big political circus just needs to go away. It’s constant. It sucks!

  4. No need to speculate about why Trump chose him, this opinion from Kavanaugh sums it up in a nutshell:
“..that presidents should also be free from criminal investigations.”

    On anther note:
“Trump pardons ranchers in case that involved 2016 armed occupation of a national wildlife refuge in Oregon.”
“Dwight and Steven Hammond were convicted in 2012 of intentionally and maliciously setting fires on public lands.”

So, what ever happened to respecting our country’s laws?
So if you are right wing you can set dangerous fires anyplace?
    Why have any laws?
So armed insurgency against the US merits a pardon now.
…uh huh. law and order must prevail; only when it buys me votes.

    1. So, what ever happened to respecting our country’s laws?

I can’t believe a lib would pose a question like that. How do you libs determine what laws you want enforced and which ones you don’t? I’ve never gotten an answer to that question. You sure don’t want immigration laws enforced. Nor do you want Hillary charged for her criminal violations.

      1. First off, another deflection by the right. Secondly, how does the right wing determine which laws to follow? Certainly not the ones on the books. Finally, Clinton hasn’t been found guilty on anything despite millions of dollars spent on it by House and Senate Republicans. And we do want immigration laws, but we want fair ones. The right has been howling for weeks that President Obama and President Clinton both wanted stronger immigration just like Trump. The reason most were not passed was because of Mitch McConnell and Paul Ryan.

          1. John, look up the definition of deflection. The original poster asked why Trump would pardon 2 people who were found guilty of setting fires. Do you know that arson is a crime? The 2nd poster asked what laws libs want enforced. I asked the same question of conservatives. These men were found guilty. Why does Trump get to change the laws because these guys belong to a right wing militia? Why is he courting favor with right wing militia people – remember Arpaio? The right has been posting about the law on immigration and how Presidents Clinton and Obama said the same thing as Trump. The left is for stricter immigration laws. President Obama deported more illegal immigrants than any other President. And finally, if Hilary Clinton is found guilty of anything, then she should face the punishment. So far, none of the Republican efforts to find her guilty of anything have failed. Do you want to forget about our Constitution that says guilt must be proved? Or is that another law you want to skip in your quest for justice? John, you bring nothing to the table so pipe down.

        1. Not really, The whining, crying and fear-mongering is a trademark of the President. He has got you so full of fear that you can’t think.
