Real estate and mobile home taxes due

MASON CITY – It’s time to pay those pesky taxes, the county treasurer says.

Treasurer Patricia Wright reminds all taxpayers that the 2nd half real estate and mobile home taxes are due in the Treasurer’s office by 4:30 pm Monday, April 2, 2018, due to March 31st occurring on a weekend. The Court House will be closed on Friday, March 30th due to the Good Friday holiday; therefore, mailed taxes must have a postmark no later than April 2, 2018.

When paying by mail or in person, the Treasurer recommends using the 2nd half coupon attached to the statement. The taxpayer’s cancelled check will serve as receipt. Those wishing an additional receipt must enclose a self-addressed, stamped envelope. Payment methods accepted in the office are cash, check, and debit card, Discover, MasterCard and Visa.

The Treasurer encourages all taxpayers to take advantage of the online property tax payment at www.iowatreasurers.org. This service provides an opportunity to pay taxes online for any property in Iowa through a secure website 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Payment may be made by Discover, MasterCard, Visa, or eCheck (debiting the funds electronically from your checking account).

The Treasurer’s office in the courthouse is open Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.

The ‘Beacon property search’ site is now updated and Everyone I know went up, many Way up. What a freakin’ scam and assessments of course done by outsiders. Just a damn fund raiser and good luck fighting it. Time to MOVE!!! You’re right, if you are a city/state employee or teacher, no worries!

Sneaky Bastards.

I just received my notice that my taxes were going up. The letter was dated January 1st and I just got it yesterday, whats up with that? I was never contacted and nobody came to my house either. What a ripoff. I would like to hear from anyone who’s taxes went down. They said some would go up and some would go down. I have not heard from anyone that theirs went down. Are there any?

My assessed value went down 14 grand. I let them in my house so they should see all of my so called improvements.

Mine increased only a very small fraction (due to rising market value). The increase was offset by a correction to my property record detail that previously included a partially finished basement. I let the guy from Vanguard Appraisals inside the home so that he could confirm that the basement does not have any finished areas, and the assessment amount related to that incorrect information was removed.

this is not a problem for city employees, teachers, etc as they just have any increase n taxes added to their next pay increase. Not a problem

Sad!

Yep! My tax assessment went WAY UP too and they never contacted me or came inside. I will try to fight the increase BUT the Beacon site does not have new assessments on it yet, so how do I make my case and get comparables. I cannot take anymore take increases or I WILL have to move!!!

They reassessed our house without ever looking at it. Easy way to raise taxes without looking like it is a tax increase. They don’t have the money to float the downtown fiasco without a increase.

Anyone else’s land values tripled? What, are we (elderly, poor, disabled, working class blue collar workers) now having to pay Southbridge taxes, too? This will really attract new people to Mason City having really high property tax rates which, in turns, trickles down to rent increases, higher rates at local stores, etc. In my opinion, Mason City does not have the brightest thinkers nor visionaries for City Council Members.

enjoy your current tax rates cause after the cronies at city hall get done they will double. something to look back at in a cpl of years.
