Clear Lake man hurt in Bremer county car crash

RURAL BREMER COUNTY, IOWA – A Clear Lake man was hurt in a car crash this weekend in Bremer county.

On October 6, 2017 at approximately 8:48 AM, Bremer County deputies responded to an accident in the 2600 block of Highway 218. Sandra Burroughs, 49 of Cedar Falls, was traveling north on Hwy 218 in a 2013 Chevy Sonic when a 1996 Mack Semi driven by Trevor Thuman, 35 of Delhi, was stopped in the middle of travel portion of the Hwy 218 north. Ms. Burroughs avoided hitting the semi and came to a stop. A Dodge Avenger driven by Shawn Snelling, 22 of Clear Lake, also traveling north on Hwy 218 saw the stopped semi and swerved to avoid it, but rear-ended Ms. Burroughs’ vehicle. Both Ms. Burroughs and Mr. Snelling had complaint of pain but neither one of them wanted to be transported to the hospital. Mr. Thuman was cited for stopping on travel portion of the roadway and failure to signal.

The Bremer County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Waverly Ambulance, Janesville Fire & First Responders, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa DOT, and Tim & Mikes Wrecker Service.
