Mason City man guilty of drunk driving, drug charge dropped

MASON CITY – A Mason City man who was charged with drunk driving and drug possession accepted a plea deal and was sent to jail.

At about 1:50 AM on Sunday, March 15 at about 1:50 AM, an Iowa State Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle driven by 20-year-old Cody Gene Bilyeu at the 17000 block of 220th Street. A Cerro Gordo deputy was called in to assist in the investigation during the stop. It was determined that Bilyeu was intoxicated and was in possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. A minor passenger was cited for possession of alcohol.

Bilyeu was arrested for drunk driving and possession of a controlled substance. Later, Bilyeu accepted a plea deal in which he pled guilty to first offense operating while intoxicated and the drug possession charge was dismissed. He was sent to jail for two days and ordered to pay $1,857.50 in fines and court costs.
