Up to 32 people injured in tour bus crash on I-80

logo-iowa-state-patrolIOWA COUNTY – Charges are pending after a fiery 5-vehicle accident Friday that included a tour bus with 27 people on board.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, as a group of vehicles approached a previous accident on Interstate 80 in Iowa county Friday at about 4:14 PM, traffic was slowing. A semi-truck driven by a Portland, Oregon man rear-ended a 2010 Ford Escape drive by 29-year-old Andrea Lee Haglund of Boone. This caused a fiery chain reaction crash with three more vehicles: A 2003 Chevy Impala driven by 30-year-old Leroy Steven Lowery of Muscatine; a Kia Soul, driven by 50-year-old Keith Dickens of Indianapolis; and a Turtle Top Tour Bus driven by 27-year-old Kirby Weber of Des Moines.

The state patrol said Saturday that the tour bus had 26 passengers plus the driver, Weber. A total of 32 persons were transported to nearby hospitals – mostly the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

Charges are pending and the crash remains under investigation.
