MASON CITY – A complaint about a fence-builder who collected thousands before a job was started – and never got started – has pled guilty to a theft charge.

According to Mason City police, 40-yer-old Chad Angell is accused of allegedly cashing a check for approximately $7,000 that he had solicited to purchase supplies and install a fence in Mason City but never started the work. A warrant was issued for him for 2nd Degree Theft and he was arrested on Nov. 21, 2014. On May 5, 2015, Cerro Gordo deputies arrested him for failing to appear in court for a pre-trial conference. Today, May 8, Angell pleaded guilty to a reduced charge of theft in the third degree. He was sentenced to a suspended 2 year prison term, placed on probation for two years, and ordered to submit a DNA sample. He must also pay $6,900.00 in restitution.

Angell is also accused of domestic abuse assault, stemming from an arrest again by Mason City police on March 9. Today in court, Angell pleaded guilty. He now awaits a sentencing hearing on May 27.
