MASON CITY – A Northwood man is facing his second drunk driving charge within the last year in Cerro Gordo county, and he’s back behind bars after skipping his arraignment hearing.
Damian Scott Lapoint, age 22, was due in court Monday morning, April 20 but failed to appear. He was arrested later that day on a warrant and taken to the county jail. He also failed to complete his substance abuse evaluation at Prairie Ridge. Lapointe is facing a charge of second offense operating while intoxicated after his arrest on March 14 by Mason City police. He was also charged with no insurance, driving with suspended license (due to his previous drunk driving conviction), failure to stop at a stop sign and open container of alcohol. He is being held on $2,000 cash bond.
Lapoint was last arrested for drunk driving in August of 2014. He was sent to jail for 2 days, had his license taken away and ordered to pay $1,977.25 in fines and court fees. He has so far failed to make a payment on that balance, records show.
