NORA SPRINGS – A Wednesday afternoon crash near Nora Springs sent a Charles City woman to the hospital, who later died.
According to the Iowa State Patrol, at about 12:45 PM on March 25, 34-year-old Mary Calpito was eastbound, traveling below the post speed limit, on the Avenue of the Saints near the 195 mile marker in her Toyota Corolla when she was struck from behind by a GMC Envoy driven by 53-year-old Steve Ward of Greene.
Calpito was injured as a result of the collision, and she was transported to Mercy Medical Center in Mason City with serious injuries. The Iowa State Patrol reported later Thursday that Calpito died as a result of the crash. Traffic was slowed at the crash site for hours as an investigation was undertaken by law enforcement.
The State Patrol was assisted at the scene by Nora Springs Fire and Ambulance, the Floyd County Sheriff’s Department and Mason City ambulance.
They sure seem to need turn lanes out there. When people slow down for the right angle turns they get rear ended. It was never designed right from the beginning.
When you run into the back of another vehicle your usually given a ticket for failure to control – oh well I see a lawsuit coming anyway. By the way is this fellow our school superintdent here in Manly ?
That stretch of the Avenue of the Saints is got to be the deadliest in the state of Iowa.
