What’s next: The No. 5 NIACC women’s basketball team (19-5 overall, 8-2 in the ICCAC) plays at Iowa Lakes on Wednesday. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
NIACC topped 68-56 in the first meeting between the two teams on Jan. 21 in Mason City.
Last time out: NIACC dropped a 89-85 decision to Iowa Central on Saturday. Sierra Ford-Washington led the Lady Trojans with 22 points and 10 rebounds.
Among the nation’s best: NIACC averages 84.8 points per game, which ranks fourth among NJCAA Division II teams. The Lady Trojans rank fourth in NJCAA Division II with 216 3-point goals.

Men’s basketball
What’s next: The NIACC men’s basketball team (15-12, 4-5) returns to action Wednesday at Iowa Lakes. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
NIACC topped Iowa Lakes 87-85 in the first meeting between the two schools on Jan. 21 in Mason City.
Last time out: The Trojans topped the Crown College junior varsity 89-35 on Sunday in Minneapolis. The Trojans play at the Association Free Lutheran Bible School on Monday night.

Wrestling
What’s next: The No. 6 NIACC wrestling team returns to action Feb. 27-28 at the NJCAA national tournament in Des Moines.
Last time out: NIACC placed second at the NJCAA North Central district meet on Sunday and qualified all 10 wrestlers for the national meet. Jake Marlin claimed the 141-pound district title and Nosomy Pozo was the 149-pound district champion. NIACC coach Steve Kelly was selected as the district coach of the year.
Perfect 10: NIACC qualified all 10 wrestlers for the national meet for the first time since the 2009 season when the Trojans also placed second at the district meet under coach Mark Schwab. Kelly, who is in his sixth season as coach of the Trojans, has qualified 54 wrestlers for the national meet.

Indoor track and field
What’s next: The NIACC men’s and women’s track and field teams compete at the NJCAA Region XI indoor championships Friday and Saturday in Storm Lake.
Last time out: The NIACC women’s track and field team set three school records at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville Invitational on Saturday. Sophomore Hannah Palmeter won the 800-meter run in a school-record time of 2 minutes, 17.85 seconds, which qualified her for the national meet.
Also, sophomore Adrine Monagi won the 200 in a school-record 26.15 and won the 400 in a school-record 1:00.13. Sophomore Rellie Kaputin won the triple jump in 11.54 meters, which met the national qualifying standard.
Highlights for the NIACC men at UW-Platteville were Trey Simons and Imad Amenzou both qualifying for the NJCAA national indoor meet in the mile in times of 4:18.90 and 4:20.05, respectively. John Enright placed 10th in the 800 in a national-qualifying time of 1:59.64.
Among the nation’s best: Palmeter ranks second nationally in the mile (5:09.87) and third in the 3,000 (10:31.95), Monagi ranks third nationally in the indoor pentathlon (3,245 points) and 10th in the 60 (7.71), LaBrisha Michael ranks fourth in the shot put (13.67 meters) and Rellie Kaputin ranks fifth in the triple jump (11.54 meters), ranks ninth in the long jump (5.60 meters) and 10th in the long jump (5.60 meters). For the NIACC men, Simons ranks 7th in the mile (4:18.90) and Amenzou ranks 9th in the mile (4:20.05).

Baseball
What’s next: The NIACC baseball team returns to action March 7-9 in Oklahoma. The Trojans (1-1 overall) play at doubleheader at Western Oklahoma State College on March 7, a twinbill against Northern Oklahoma College-Enid on March 8 and two games against Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa on March 9.
The Trojans games scheduled for Feb. 21-22 in Highland, Kan., have been canceled due to the forecast of cold weather.
Last time out: NIACC split a pair of games with Butler Community College on Saturday. The Trojans won the first game 2-1 and dropped the second game 5-0.
In the opener, sophomore Quinn Ahern pitched a seven-inning complete game 2-hitter. He allowed one unearned run with five strikeouts and three walks.

Softball
What’s next: The NIACC softball team (2-2 overall) returns to action Feb. 27 against Iowa Lakes, Muscatine CC and Kirkwood at the RCTC Early Bird Tournament.
Last time out: NIACC beat Marshalltown 15-3 in five innings and dropped a 10-1 five-inning decision to the Mount Mercy JV on Feb. 12. The Lady Trojans stopped Marshalltown 13-3 in five innings and fell to No. 12 Iowa Central 11-8 on Feb. 13.
On a tear: Sophomore Brittani Sanchez leads all NJCAA Division II hitters with a .769 batting average (10 for 13). The former Mason City prep is tied for fifth in the nation with five doubles. She also has one triple, one home run, eight RBIs and nine runs scored.
