cited-police-featured1MASON CITY – A Mason City woman who was on her way to pick up her infant grand daughter was cited by police after she ran a red light and caused a two car accident.

According to Mason City police, on Sunday at 4:15 PM, a two car collision was reported at 6th Street and South Federal Avenue. Ruth Latham was eastbound on 6th Street SW through the intersection on a green light.

“Katherine Hall went southbound through the intersection against a solid red light,” police told NIT.  “Hall’s vehicle collided with Latham’s vehicle. Latham was transported by MCFD emergency responders to the Mercy ER for evaluation.”

Hall was cited for Failure to Obey a Traffic Control Device. She was also treated at Mercy Hospital for unknown injuries, sources disclosed to NIT. Her compact car was totaled, as was the infant’s car seat inside, the source said.

“I can only thank God in heaven that my baby daughter was not in that car,” said the 7-month-old baby’s father, who was waiting for Hall to arrive and pick the baby up at 4 PM. “I don’t know what Mrs. Hall was thinking or doing while driving, but I am very concerned for the safety of my daughter.”
