WASHINGTON, D.C.—Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) has awarded three Iowa airports a total of $1,290,047 for construction and maintenance projects. Harkin is a senior member of the Senate Appropriations Committee and the subcommittee that funds the DOT.
“Keeping Iowa’s rural producers linked to markets requires continually expanding and renewing our transportation infrastructure,” said Harkin. “Building a new regional airport in Sioux Center and improving the airports in Marshalltown and Knoxville are sound investments that will undoubtedly lead to growth in these communities.”
Details of the funding are as follows:
Knoxville Municipal– $836,787 to fund the rehabilitation of the apron and taxiway.
Marshalltown Municipal– $91,800 to fund the acquisition of land to meet current safety and operational standards.
Sioux County Regional Airport– $361,460 to fund the construction of a new airport.
