MASON CITY – The Charles H. MacNider Art Museum in Mason City, IA would like to announce a call for entries for its biennial Area Show exhibition. The deadline for entering the 2014 exhibition is Wednesday, August 13. The competition for Area Show: 44 is open to all artists above high school age residing within 100 miles of Mason City, encompassing North Central Iowa and Southern Minnesota. Each entrant is eligible to submit up to two artworks, in any media, for consideration. The juror for Area Show: 44 is Sarah Frydenlund, Board President – Driftless Art Collective, Decorah, IA.

This year’s Area Show will open Friday, September 19 at 9 a.m. with an awards program and artists’ reception on Saturday, September 20 beginning at 2 p.m. Awards will be announced and presented at 2:30 p.m. This lively reception celebrating the exhibition will provide a rare chance for the public to meet and converse with the artists. The reception is free and open to all those who wish to attend.

Entering artists are competing for the opportunity to have their work exhibited and for cash awards. Area Show: 44 is sponsored by NSB Bank. The artist with the entry chosen NSB Bank’s Best in Show will be granted a solo exhibition at the Charles H. MacNider Art Museum in 2015. Three artists will receive $250 Excellence Awards. Two Merit Awards, each at $100, and a $50 Most Daring Award will also be given.
