CLEAR LAKE – The city of Clear Lake has named an interim chief of police.

Mayor Nelson Crabb and City Administrator Scott Flory recently conducted internal interviews for purposes of selection of an interim police chief while a permanent replacement is found for the retiring Greg Peterson.

The mayor has recommended Lieutenant Rex McChesney for confirmation to the post by the City Council. This actual appointment will take place at the March 3rd City Council meeting. Rex has been with the Department since 1986. He has been a Lieutenant since 2006.

No set timetable has been determined for the transition to a permanent replacement for Chief Peterson. It is anticipated that the search process will begin in the next few months and could take 6-10 months. Mr. Flory said that the city expects to consider internal candidates.

Whatever happened to Herb Garlock? LOL

Clear Lake is very lucky to have Rex McChesney on the force. He will make an excellent Chief.

Good on you Clear Lake.

I am glad to see Chief Peterson gone. I am a law abiding taxpayer and have been collecting information on Racial and Age profiling that the CL Police Department has been doing over the last 28 months. I hope things change in Clear Lake. There are numerous cases where the CLPD targets young people pulling them over for no reason. This is well documented. If anyone else has cases they want to share, let me know.

@Iowaboy51-they do the same thing in Mason City. If you are driving or walking after 10:30 at night they will pull people over just to check them for drugs or alcohol. If there is not a legal reason they will make up some B.S. like you crossed the center line or forgot to signal. Been happening for years and always gets worse at the end of the month and the first of the month. They say there is no quota but they are told they are not doing their jobs because their tickets are down. The worse thing I see is stopping people who are walking home because they know they have had to much to drink and are being responsible and not driving.

Jim Boehnke told me this months ago. Looks like he got his way.

A Peter by another name, is still a dick.

Ride your Hog responsibly and you won’t need to feel like a Dick. People will actually like you then. Imagine that?

Peter, I live on a busy street and early in the morning in the summer there are a couple guys that live around here that take off to work and rap the RPM’s up and it is so loud BUT on the other foot when you are on the bike and you feel the vibrations and hear the roar you can’t help but rap the RPM’s, been there done that and there isn’t anything better.

They would be arrested under my regime, and their bikes impounded.

It’s probably more important how you feel riding your bike than what others have to put up when when you are riding it. Makes sense… If you’re a dick.
