Buckley, Cyclone women look for season sweep of Texas Tech

logo_iowa_state_cyclonesAMES – The No. 13 Iowa State women’s basketball team (14-4, 3-4 Big 12) hits the road to take on Texas Tech (7-10, 0-7 Big 12). The Cyclones are looking to return to their winning ways with a sweep of the Lady Raiders. ISU toppled Texas Tech in Hilton Coliseum, 74-48, earlier this season.

This is the 24th meeting between Iowa State and Texas Tech, with ISU grabbing control of the all-time series, 13-10, early last season. This is also the second meeting of the season between Iowa State and Texas Tech, as the Cyclones dropped the Lady Raiders in a 74-48 rout in Hilton Coliseum.

Iowa State dropped its fourth-consecutive game against the Sooners on Tuesday by a score of 75-54. The Cyclones committed 16 turnovers and shot just 31.5 percent from the field in the loss.

Iowa State sits at 28th in the latest RPI rankings after a 14-4 start to the season. Iowa State is currently the fourth among all Big 12 schools.

Former Mason City Mohawk standout Jadda Buckley, a 5-8 Freshman, is averaging 10.9 points per game, along with 2.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists. She has earned a league-high three Big 12 Freshman of the Week awards.

The Cyclones’ NCAA record streak of consecutive games with a three-pointer is about to hit 600, pending a three-point make at Texas Tech. Over the span of the last 15 years, Iowa State has netted 4,650 three’s. The last time the Cyclones failed to knock down a three-point shot was on Feb. 15, 1995 at Missouri.

The Cyclones dropped seven spots to No. 20 in the AP Poll after falling to West Virginia and Kansas State this past week. The Cyclones also sit at No. 17 in the USA Today Coaches poll. This is the 21st-straight time Iowa State has been ranked in the AP or USA Today polls.
