MASON CITY – A man who neighbors feared could be armed and who refused to immediately comply with police requests to exit his home was taken away in an ambulance late Monday afternoon.
Mason City police responded to 639 South Jackson at about 3:40 PM Monday after a call from a neighbor who said that a man at that residence was intoxicated, suicidal and could have a 9mm gun.
At the scene, police had the 600 through 800 block of S. Jackson blocked off. Four squad cars, along with fir trucks and ambulance waited to see what the man would do. The man did not appear to be happy that authorities and emergency responders and come to the area.
Police ultimately made contact with the man and were able to calm him down and get him into an ambulance. He had a female companion that was by his side who showed much concern.
There did not appear to be charges filed in the matter.
Officers at this scene did a Fantastic job calming the subject. They were very professional about the whole thing. I watched this all unfold. If not for their caring, and superb skills this could of been much worse.

Seems like alot of the posters have experience with the police. I don’t but I’ve seen the people they deal with. Most are losers with a capital “L”. Unemployed or unemployable. Not a job most people can handle.
Well then, they don’t deserve to live in the same world as you big joe. They don’t deserve the same life, liberty and pursuit of happiness as you.

Are you sure this is America anymore? Because it’s starting to read like newspapers in the Soviet Union or China.
This man must have really wanted their help, or otherwise he had every right to tell these cops to go to hell and get off his property.
The surrendering of our rights to police power has become absolutely insane. I’m not sure anyone even understands their rights anymore, or limitations to police power.

The police are Gods, they are superior to you and me, their lives are worth more and they have every right to take our lives if the think they are threatened. This is what you wanted. You wanted it this way. You also wanted them to keep property and money of suspected druggers.No criminal charges needed. YOU WANTED THIS. Too late now.

Well here’s the thing about police…at least the sensible ones understand that they aren’t always working as cops. They could be out in California visiting Disneyland with their family or in Las Vegas with their buddies, and the last thing they would want to deal with is officers in those locales acting excessive. I mean even some of them like to cut loose with some beers every once in awhile out on the town. The point I’m making is that the smart police know to not act with excessive impunity or force towards the population, because they themselves wouldn’t want to be subjected to such treatment as civilians by other PAC MAN overzealous cops.
But…there are always immature and unwise officers who want to use their position to inflict as much ass-kicking as they can while they are having their time. Good senior members should know how to reign that crap in.
There was a story on the news today about a guy in a movie theater was texting his 3 year old daughter when a retired cop started arguing with him and eventually the retired cop shot the man.
The takeaway to that is “Don’t text in theaters, Don’t be a douche.”
Or get shot by a retired police officer? Is that the take-away you were referring to?
