Hotel Fantasy?

I am suspicious by nature, and I have always adhered to the old axiom; if it walks like a duck, talks like a duck it must be a duck. When you pause long enough to look closely at the calender you will realize we are just days away from an election….what could be better for the mayor than to announce a new hotel? The problem is, I don’t believe a word of it. I think this is another “manufactured” pile of crap dressed up like a fatted cow that Bookmeyer, Hickey, Tornquist and Solberg can feast on.
Stop and think this thing through. The Park Inn only has 27 rooms, they are “rarely” filled, hardly ever, not even close. The manager will swear up and down anything Bookmeyer tells him to, so forget him. There are a few night riders who pass the Park Inn late at night on their bikes….never see more than 10 to 12 cars outside. The manager of the new Holiday Inn Express spoke at the council meeting and said their occupancy was only 52% and another hotel would hurt occupancy of all the other lodging operators. They are scraping by, as it is. Ninety six more rooms would kill them.
Now you really think a national chain would come in here with 96 rooms? Normally these hotels are “franchised” to private investors who pay a percentage to the national chain and use their monogrammed products and of course agree to adhere to the standards set forth. Now Bookmeyer wants you to believe that this former resident, now living 2,000 miles away is going to finance this venture? Wake the hell up, if there was one more ounce of meat on the bones of the lodging industry in this city, Stony Creek would be on it like Bookmeyer on a six-pack of Budweiser.
This little dog & pony show was just that, a dog and pony show to try and get votes.
By the way, if it was so important to the investor from California, why did he skip the last council meeting, which was “crucial” for this fantasy to move ahead? Something more important than a multi-million dollar hotel project for your hometown on your schedule, Mr. Chodur?

While it may or may not be an election creation, talk of it does go back as far as at least June of this year. If it’s not an election creation, I do think it’s very overly optimistic that such a venture would work – – it would be at least a decade before a hotel of that size, downtown, came anywhere close to full occupancy. There’s certainly no need for it now or in the forseeable future.
When you are a politician you must think no less than 12 months before the next election, that one in particular that will decide your fate. Now if you are a politician who has continually made an ass of yourself in public and have zero accomplishments to your credit…..well then, June isn’t as early as you might imagine.
I agree Peter; i just wanted to set the record straight because some posts seemed to indicate that some people were under the impression that this hotel talk has only recently surfaced. The dirty tactics going on has, you can rest assured, been being talked about and implemented for the last several months.
A liar begins with making falsehoods appear like truth, and ends with making truth appear like falsehoods.
Any fool can criticize and complain-and most fools do.
The only fool here are those who believe
Any thing Peter puts on her. He just wants
To make you believe he knows Avery thing
That go’s on in are town. We live in a great
Community with great city workers, great
Amenities. Most towns would love to have
What we have. If only we could get rid of
All the nay Sayers like most of the folks
Who post on here.
So please those who don’t like living her
Go live some where else.
The great enemy of the truth is very often not the LIE, deliberate, contrived and dishonest, but the myth, persistent, persuasive and unrealistic.
The truth is always the last one invited to the party……and the least appreciated and welcomed.

What was it the circus guy said, mr Barnam I believe it was. ” You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can’t fool all of the people all of the time.” This hotel fantasy is a classical example of just what Barnam said.
It was the birth of this site (N. I. T.) that brought fresh air to a community that was locked up for 100 years under the spell of a one newspaper town. It is very easy to separate those who are not pleased about that.
It is easy for them to say that Hilton is looking at building here but I do not believe it for a second. It makes no sense whatsoever. I think it is a scam by Bookie and his partners in crime to try and make it look like they have done something good. After the election the will announce the deal fell through but then it will be to late for the sheeple.
I was serving Bookmryer in a local bar, I can’t name which one or I’ll be found out. The mayor was plotting this whole thing and laughing about it. He was pretty drunk at the time so I didn’t pay much attention.
That bull and you know it. Ok you’ve had your minute of fame now go crawl under your
Rock.
The hotel is an election creation, people who work in city hall are starting to leak this hoax. There are no secrets in a town this size
Just curious Matt, why did you delete my post? It was on topic and did not attack Peter.
Let’s not rush to judgement. One if there was a study they definitely would not release that to the general public. That would be akin to Peter sharing his net worth on Nit with all the details. Even Peter knows that isn’t going to happen. As far as the parking lot so what if people have to walk another block to park somewhere else.
I am waiting for more details before I decide this is a dead horse or a thoroughbred in the making.
as for Peter other than your ill-fated Library venture with Bud and the gals you bedded what commercial property have you ever owned or currently own in Mason City. please share to once again demonstrate that you are the most knowledgeable and greatest thing in Mason City since sliced bread.
Me says the only study done was: How To Fool Sheep Into Thinking The Bookmeyer Regime Did Anything Besides Tip Back A Brown Bottle
At one time I owned the O.P. building, the corner building at 217 N. Federal and we bought the library building about 1973… I think it was. I leased several other properties in the city. I have been self employed for 60 years. I currently manufacture Swarovski jewelry in three different factories in China.
I have sold Wal-Mart, Target, I wrote one order with Time/Life for $2,000,000.00, I did over 4 million with the Bradford Exchange, 3 million with a non-profit group of radio stations, I produce 14 different items for Diners Club, put a marketing concept into the entire Raddision Hotel chain which at the time consisted of 176 hotels. I am currently working on a program with a 485 furniture store chain…..and that’s only part of it. Now take a minute and tell me what it is you have done.
Peter you talk big but I doubt you have the means to put this or any thing else together.
But you do talk big and you have a lot of people fooled.
Sounds like Peter is…. winning.
Ruby Red what is he winning he’s an old man who dreams a lot who wants you all to think he is some one. Check him out if it wasn’t for NIT no one would never know who he is. He has never done any thing for are community .
Every word I wrote can be verified beyond doubt. I have all the invoices and paper work. Plus there are witnesses who were present. What I reveled was less than half of what I have done. I am still waiting on you to be as open as I was. Let me say this to you, you won’t need much time or space…you schmuck.
Good level headed response Peter. I believe you.
Peter the only schmuck here is you. You
And I both know your living in the past
It a good thing your Mom left you a home
Or you mitt be living at the home less
Shelter. Peter do us all a favor and go
Away. Again what have you done for
Mason City. Matt before you get upset
I wish you the best in your run for city
Council. Just cut your ties from Peter
And Max and I do believe you mitt be
Able to do good things .
Peter, something smells rotten here, and it ain’t the food they ain’t cookin’ at the Park Inn. Now that you point it out, how in the world could a hotel fit in that parking lot. It couldn’t, because there would be no cars. Impossible. Then they send Jackie Aurther in to the council meetin’ to make it look all official. A hired hand, she had a smirk on all night, she knew the whole deal was a sham. The dude from Cali was too busy to come back here, why? Could be a $20+ million dollar deal and he stayed home? For reals? The real smell in the air is d-e-s-p-e-r-a-t-i-o-n.
Mr.Liberty says paranoia will destroyia…
Bob we don’t need a feasibility study. It’s there money if it dos not work out it’s there loss not the city’s. We will get paid for the land and get tax’s weather they go broke or not.
Peter get a life all you do is try and cause trouble you don’t
Have a clue what is going on .
Was there a feasibility study done? I never heard about one being done. If it were it would have been msde public. I am ready to put down hard cash that there will be no hotel named Hilton in that parking lot. This is a political ploy. Has anyone done a background check on the developer? Might be interesting….
Bob get your hard cash and go check them out. Yes the city has check them out. Will it be a Hilton we will have to wait and see . It mitt be some thing else but let’s give it time and see.
Makes perfect sense, simple to cook up and feed to the locals here. Looks like a real con job.
