WASHINGTON, D.C. – Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) on Monday announced that the Ottumwa Regional Airport will receive $419,791 from the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (DOT) Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to install a wildlife fence around the perimeter of the airport. The fence will eliminate wildlife incursions on the airfield during aircraft operations and increase the safety of aircraft operators. Harkin is a senior member of the Appropriations subcommittee that funds these initiatives.
“Maintaining a quality airport is important to the economic health and vitality of Iowa communities,” said Harkin. “I congratulate the Ottumwa Regional Airport on this funding, which will help improve air safety while preventing harm to local wildlife.”
