MASON CITY – The NIACC men’s cross country team is ranked sixth in the initial NJCAA national poll released today.
NIACC has placed second in both of its meets this season. The Trojans were second at the Region XI time trial in Mason City on Aug. 24 and were second at the Mount Mercy Mustang Gallop in Cedar Rapids on Aug. 30.
Freshman Jaime Zerate (Cedar Falls, Ia.) placed second at the Region XI time trial 5-kilometer race in 16 minutes, 39.8 seconds. He was also second at the Mustang Gallop 5K in 16:30.
Sophomore Mason Powers (Gilbert, Ia.) was fourth at the Region XI time trial (16:58.3) and fourth at the Mustang Gallop (16:53).
NIACC, which placed fifth at the NJCAA national meet in 2012 and was fourth in 2011, returns to action Sept. 14 at the Grinnell College Les Duke Invitational.
