Pospisil is Honorary Captain for Hawkeyes against Missouri State

IOWA CITY, Iowa — Former Hawkeye defensive lineman Scott Pospisil will serve as Iowa’s honorary captain this weekend when the University of Iowa hosts Missouri State (11:01 a.m., BTN) in Kinnick Stadium.

Pospisil is a native of Mt. Vernon, Iowa, who joined the Iowa program as a walk-on.  He was named to the elite all-state team as a senior center at Mt. Vernon HS.  As an offensive lineman and linebacker, Pospisil helped the Mustangs win back-to-back Class 2A state titles as a junior and senior.

Pospisil had his most productive season as a Hawkeye senior.  He played in all 11 games, ranking fourth on the team in tackles.  He recorded 46 solo tackles and 24 assists, including nine tackles for loss and six QB sacks. He was named a permanent team captain on defense and was awarded the Hayden Fry “Extra Heartbeat” Award. As a junior, he was named Defensive Scout Team Player of the Year.

Following his college career Pospisil served on Iowa’s strength and conditioning staff for one year under Chris Doyle.  Pospisil then began his professional football career, playing three years in NFL Europe, playing one season with the Berlin Thunder and two seasons with the Amsterdam Admirals.  He later spent time in the NFL with New England, Denver and San Diego.  Pospisil completed his playing career with two seasons in the Arena Football League, spending one year with Chicago and one season with Utah.

Pospisil will accompany the Iowa captains to the center of the field for Saturday’s pregame coin toss.  He will also be with the Hawkeyes in the locker room before and after the game, and on the sidelines during the contest.
