Brownsville, Texas – U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Gateway International Bridge intercepted a load of alleged methamphetamine and cocaine. CBP officers discovered the alleged narcotics, valued at approximately $354,600, hidden within a Chevrolet Cobalt.
On August 21, 2013 CBP officers working primary at Gateway International Bridge encountered a black 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt driven by a woman. A CBP officer’s primary examination resulted in the vehicle, its driver, identified as a 21-year-old United States citizen who resides in Brownsville, Texas being referred to CBP secondary for further examination. While in secondary, CBP officers discovered three packages hidden within the vehicle, an additional 15 packages concealed within a wooden shelf found within the Chevrolet. CBP officers removed the three packages from the vehicle which held a combined total weight of 3.52 kilograms (7.8 pounds) of alleged cocaine and the 15 packages from the shelf which held 3.16 kilograms (7.7 pounds) of alleged methamphetamine.
The alleged cocaine from this seizure has an estimated street value of approximately $249,600 and the alleged methamphetamine has an estimated street value of approximately $105,000. CBP officers seized the narcotics and the vehicle and turned the woman over to Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) special agents for further investigation.
