Border patrol nabs Colorado man wanted on sex assault charges

El Paso, Texas — U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers working at the El Paso port of entry apprehended a 39-year-old Colorado man being sought on sexual assault charges Tuesday.

“Fugitive apprehensions occur regularly at the El Paso port,” said El Paso Port Director Hector Mancha. “CBP officers identify and take into custody wanted and dangerous people on a daily basis while they perform their homeland security mission. It is an important part of the work we do in keeping our nation safe.”

The apprehension was made just after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Ysleta international crossing when 39-year-old Sergio De Jesus Salgado Gurrola entered the port as a pedestrian and applied for admission. He told the CBP officer he did not have his legal entry document in his possession but did provide a Colorado identification card instead. The CBP officer performed a query and learned that the man was being sought by authorizes in Weld County. Colorado. He was taken into custody without incident while CBP officers confirmed the warrant information. He was then turned over to the El Paso Police Department and booked into the El Paso County Jail.

CBP officers working at the El Paso port on Tuesday also made five marijuana seizures. They confiscated 354 pounds of the drug in those busts. They also recorded four agriculture violations yesterday. CBP agriculture specialists confiscated live plant cuttings, pork meat, quince and guavas in those incidents.
