Del Rio, Texas – Tuesday, U.S. Border Patrol agents working in Del Rio arrested four suspected illegal immigrants and seized more than $20,000 in U.S. currency.
On Aug. 9, agents from the Del Rio Station observed several suspected undocumented immigrants cross the Rio Grande River into the United States. When agents responded to the area, they encountered a GMC Sierra truck. Agents made contact with the driver and passengers of the vehicle and conducted an immigration check and discovered the driver, a United States citizen, was transporting four undocumented immigrants. While conducting their interviews, the agents discovered the driver had been paid a substantial amount of money to transport the undocumented immigrants. The truck along with $20,015 was seized, and the case was turned over to Homeland Security Investigations.
The Del Rio Border Patrol Sector is part of the South Texas Campaign, which leverages federal, state and local resources to combat transnational criminal organizations. For fiscal year 2013, the Del Rio Sector has apprehended over 20,500 undocumented immigrants.
