Eagle Pass, TX – Gustavo Rodriguez-Costilla, 24, was arrested last Friday by the United States Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force (LSFTF) in Eagle Pass, TX. An arrest warrant was issued for Rodriguez-Costilla pursuant to an investigation by the Procuraduria General de la Republica (Mexican Federal Attorney General), where it is alleged that Rodriguez-Costilla escaped from a Mexican prison while facing charges for possession of firearms and grenades.

On May 13, 2013, the LSFTF was contacted by the Procuraduria General de la Republica for assistance in locating and apprehending Rodriguez-Costilla. Last Friday evening, task force officers, through investigative efforts, determined that Rodriguez- Costilla was hiding out at a residence in the 2900 block of Superior Drive in Eagle Pass, TX. While conducting surveillance, task force officers observed Rodriguez-Costilla exit the residence and then reenter the residence. Task force officers approached the residence, entered, and after a brief search, located Rodriguez-Costilla hiding in a bedroom closet. Task force officers identified themselves and attempted to take Rodriguez-Costilla into custody. Rodriguez-Costilla struggled with task force officers, but was quickly subdued and placed under arrest. During a consent search of the residence, task force officers found two firearms that were allegedly owned by Rodriguez-Costilla.

Rodriguez-Costilla is currently being held at the Maverick County Jail without bond.

On September 17, 2012, Rodriguez-Costilla, along with 131 other suspected members of Los Zetas Cartel, escaped from the Centro de Readaptación Social Prison in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico while awaiting sentence on charges for possession of firearms and grenades.

Robert R. Almonte, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas, stated, “This was a significant arrest that had a strong impact on two countries and I hope the message is clear. We will continue to work closely and diligently with our foreign law enforcement counterparts to track, find, and arrest any and all fugitives out there on the run.”
