bombSANAA, Yemen, June 3 (UPI) — A top official in a branch of al-Qaida has urged American radicals to stage Boston bombing-like attacks and threatened renewed strikes inside the United States.

Qassim ar-Reimy, the military commander for al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, which is based in Yemen, announced the prospective actions in a 6-minute video titled, “Message to the American Nation,” posted online, ABC News reported Monday.

Ar-Reimy referred to “the Boston events” and ricin-filled “poisoned letters” in the video. He said the attacks “indicate that the control of your security has broken away.”

The April 15 Boston Marathon bombings killed three people and injured 264 others. Two Chechen men were suspected in the attacks. One suspect, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, was killed in a shootout with police while the other suspect, his brother Dzhokhar, was arrested after an extensive manhunt.

A Yemeni official downplayed the video, saying it was “nothing new” and merely 6 minutes of “bad grammar,” referring to the video’s English subtitles.
