MEXICO CITY, April 28 (UPI) — Mexican authorities said an investigation would be conducted at a prison where 11 inmates died in a weekend riot.
It was unclear Sunday what triggered the melee at La Pila prison in the state of San Luis Potosi in central Mexico, which left another 65 inmates injured and had to be brought under control with help from the Mexican military.
The Los Angeles Times said Mexican media quoted the prison warden as saying the brawl revolved around a gang of prisoners who were stealing from other inmates.
