Apple’s developer conference sells out like a rock concert in minutes

CUPERTINO, Calif., April 26 (UPI) — Ticket sales for Apple’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference in San Francisco set a new record, selling out in just 2 minutes Thursday, the company said.

The conference, usually attended by around 5,000 people, has sold out every year going back to 2008, but this year’s event sold out faster than ever before even though Apple gave developers only one day of notice before the $1,600 tickets went on sale Thursday morning, the Los Angeles Times reported.

In 2012 tickets also sold out quickly but were available for 2 hours until they were all spoken for. It took the conference 12 hours to sell out in 2011 and more than a week in 2010, MacRumors reported.

Apple traditionally uses the conference to unveil the latest versions of its mobile and computer operating systems, and this year’s event, set for June 10-14 in San Francisco, is expected to preview iOS 7 for the iPhone and iPad and Mac OS X 10.9 for its line of laptops and desktops.
