MASON CITY – Mason City police said Friday that multiple residents reported receiving telephone solicitations from someone claiming to be with the “Junior Chamber of Commerce.” The caller was attempting to sell “some type of coupon booklet” for area restaurants at a price of $39.95. Police said that the caller asked that the checks be made out to “Hometown Coupon” and that if the resident was willing to buy a coupon, the caller would be over within an hour to pick up the check.
Other residents reported that the caller claims the resident has won a prize and money is needed to finalize the transaction.
Police said that it is unknown whether the solicitor is legit. The callback phone number the caller left with one resident is disconnected or not accepting calls. Police said that the caller is not affiliated with any local chamber of commerce or local restaurant that police are aware of.
Police said that several elderly residents have received these phone calls today. Police remind residents to be cautious of telephone solicitations.

It is legit. The “Junior Chamber” is synonym for “Jaycees.” The person who reported the call was unaware of this. It has been straightened out.
Why doesn’t someone call the local Jaycee’s to see if this is legit?
