VATICAN CITY, April 13 (UPI) — Pope Francis has appointed eight Roman Catholic cardinals to look into ways of reforming the Church, the Vatican said Saturday.

The group will consider possible revisions to the Vatican constitution that sets the rules for running the Roman Curia, the Church’s administrative and central governing body, CNN reported.

U.S. Cardinal Sean O’Malley of Boston is among the officials who were selected from North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia and Europe.

The group will hold its first meeting Oct. 1-3, Vatican Radio reported.

The cardinals will have no legislative power, said Vatican spokesman the Rev. Federico Lombardi in a press briefing.

The group’s main function will be to “help” and “advise” the pope, Lombardi said.
