NIACC plays at Southwestern Wednesday

CRESTON – The NIACC men’s basketball team looks to get back on track Wednesday night at Southwestern after having its five-game winning streak snapped last week.

Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.

NIACC dropped an 91-87 decision to Iowa Lakes on Feb. 13.

NIACC (17-9 overall, 4-6 in the ICCAC) sits in seventh place in the league with four games remaining. Southwestern (13-12, 6-5) is in fourth place in the ICCAC.

After Wednesday’s game, NIACC plays at DMACC on Saturday, hosts Ellsworth on Feb. 27 and plays at Clinton on March 2.

“We head into the last four games with a chance to finish anywhere from third to seventh,” NIACC coach Mark Mohl said, “so each game is really important. We have been shooting the ball well but really get hurt with points in the paint allowed.”

Southwestern topped NIACC 59-56 on Jan. 19 in Mason City.

Mohl said the Trojans will look to push the pace against Southwestern.

“We need to try and get Southwestern to play faster than they want to,” the coach said, “but they have experienced guards and do a terrific job of controlling the tempo and play at the speed they want to.”

NIACC is led by freshman David Humphries, who averages 20.0 points and 7.8 rebounds per game and leads the ICCAC in both categories.
