ATLANTA—Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Mark F. Giuliano, Gwinnett County Sheriff Butch Conway, and Gwinnett County District Attorney Danny Porter announce the return of fugitive Christian Vasquez to Gwinnett County, Georgia.
Christian Vasquez, age 28, and wanted in connection with the 2007 homicide of his 2-year-old daughter, Prisi Vasquez, was escorted back to Gwinnett County, Georgia, today from Mexico City, Mexico, by FBI agents upon completion of the extradition process there. Vasquez was arrested in July 2012 by Mexican law enforcement authorities in the town of Puebla, located in south central Mexico.
Vasquez is alleged to have struck his daughter with an object, causing her death and then hiding her body in the attic of their Lawrenceville home. Gwinnett County Sheriff’s investigators obtained an arrest warrant shortly thereafter charging Vasquez with murder. Information was developed which indicated that Vasquez had subsequently fled to Mexico.
Vasquez was indicted by a Gwinnett County grand jury on August 27, 2008, charging him with murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, and cruelty to children. A federal arrest warrant charging Vasquez with unlawful flight to avoid prosecution was obtained and, based on information indicating his whereabouts to be in Mexico, the Gwinnett County District Attorney’s Office sought and obtained a provisional arrest warrant, which would authorize Vasquez’ arrest in Mexico. Vasquez is currently being held at the Gwinnett County jail.
The above are merely allegations, and the public should be reminded that all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
