NIACC women fall Saturday night

niacc_trojans_logoEAST PEORIA, Ill. – The NIACC women’s basketball team dropped a 76-56 decision to No. 8 Illinois Central in the semifinals of the Illinois Central tournament Saturday night.

NIACC plays No. 1 Lake Michigan in the third-place game at 2 p.m. Sunday. Kirkwood and Illinois Central meet in the title game at 4 p.m.

No. 7 Kirkwood knocked off top-ranked Lake Michigan 61-41 in its semifinal contest Saturday.

Illinois Central led 40-23 at the half.

Illinois Central was led by Chanta Wright with 12 points.

NIACC (7-6) was led by freshman guard Chelsey Jacox with 14 points and four assists. Freshman post Lashae Brooks scored 10 points and had 10 rebounds for the Lady Trojans.

3-point goals – Illinois Central (6): Helton 1, Rodriguez 1, Moorman 2, Watkins 2. NIACC (2): Young, Bell.

Score at half: Illinois Central 40, NIACC 23.
