IRVING, Texas – Melvin Ejim’s 21-point, 11-rebound performance vs. Drake on Saturday earned him Big 12 Player of the Week honors, announced today by the league office. Ejim received the honor by a panel of media who cover the league.
A junior from Toronto, Ontario, Ejim tallied his fourth double -double of the season in ISU’s 86-77 win over Drake at the Hy-Vee Big Four Classic in Des Moines. Ejim was one rebound shy of a double-double at halftime (10 points/9 rebounds). He also set or equaled career highs in free-throws made (11), assists (4) and steals (4) vs. the Bulldogs.
Two of Ejim’s three 20-point games in his career occurred at the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines (22-Creighton; 21-Drake).
Ejim currently leads the Big 12 in rebounding (9.3), double-doubles (4) and double-digit rebounding efforts (7). His 11 career double-doubles are the most by any current Big 12 player.
