Three In Double Figures As Lady Cyclones Beat Fairfield Inbox

AMES, Iowa – In a game that was in part notable for the return of Iowa State’s All-Big 12 forward Chelsea Poppens, Iowa State got 18 points from Hallie Christofferson and beat Fairfield, 60-43 Sunday in Hilton Coliseum. Poppens added 12 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Cyclones (6-1, 0-0 Big 12). Brynn Williamson hit four threes to add 12 points to the Iowa State scoring ledger. Fairfield (5-3, 0-0 MAAC) was led by 13 points from Katie Cizynski.

Poppens, a preseason first-team All-Big 12 first-team selection who missed the last three games with injury, returned to action at the 14:02 mark of the first half and tallied 10 first-half points and four boards in 12 minutes of action in her 100th career game. Her bucket with 5:31 left in the first half put the Cyclones up, 36-19. She hit a pair of free throws with 33 seconds left gave Iowa State a 12 point advantage at halftime.

Iowa State led by as much as 24 points in the second half. Cyclone point guard Nikki Moody had four points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. Her seven rebounds matched a career high for the sophomore and her 10 assists marks her third career game with 10 or more. The Iowa Staters held Fairfield to 32.7 percent shooting from the field. Beyond Cizynski, Fairfield’s starters were 4-of-22 from the field.

Iowa State takes some time off for final exams and will be back on the court Dec. 17 at Northern Iowa.
