AMES, Iowa – Georges Niang led a group of six Cyclones in double figure scoring with 15 points to aid Iowa State (7-3, 0-0 Big 12) to a 93-65 victory over Omaha (2-9, 0-2 Summit League) Sunday night in Hilton Coliseum.
In all, six Cyclones scored double figures in the game. Will Clyburn, Tyrus McGee Anthony Booker each posted 11 points in the victory.
The win increases Iowa State’s homecourt winning streak to 14 games, the fifth-best streak in school history.
Iowa State wasted little time taking control of the game, jumping out to an 18-2 lead with 13:25 left in the half after a McGee 3-pointer.
The Mavericks didn’t back down, mounting a 16-4 run to cut the Cyclone lead to 22-18 with 10:04 remaining in the first half. UNO hit four treys in the run, including two by Marcus Tyus.
Iowa State bounced right back with a 13-0 run to move ahead 35-18 with under seven minutes remaining in the first half. Niang had six points in the run.
Iowa State went into the break with a 52-28 advantage, recording the most points in the opening period this season.
UNO crept back within 14 points at 59-45 with 13:12 left in the contest. Alex Phillips hit a pair of 3-pointers in a 13-3 UNO run.
Chris Babb and Melvin Ejim both hit 3-pointers in a 10-2 ISU to give the Cyclones a 71-49 cushion with under nine minutes left in the game.
McGee was 3-of-7 from 3-point range to move into a tie for 19th on ISU’s career 3-pointers made list with 78 career treys. He’s tied with Babb, who also has hit 78 career 3-pointers after recording a pair tonight.
McGee has made three or more treys in seven of 10 games this season. ISU made 11 in the game, the fifth time this season the Cyclones have made 10 or more treys.
Melvin Ejim had 13 rebounds to help the Cyclones outrebound the Mavericks, 45-24. Ejim now has six double-digit rebounding efforts on the season.
Iowa State committed a season-low six turnovers.
The Cyclones will face Drake in their next game on Saturday (Dec. 15) at the Hy-Vee Big Four Classic in the Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
