Men’s basketball

What’s next: The NIACC men’s basketball team (7-1) returns to action Tuesday at home against Riverland Community College (2-1). Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. The Trojans wrap up the November portion of its schedule at the Luther College junior varsity in Decorah on Monday, Nov. 26.

Last time out: NIACC picked up a pair of wins at the Dale Howard Classic in Iowa Falls on Nov. 16-17. The Trojans topped Quakderdale Promise Academy 113-97 (Nov. 16) and Milwaukee Area Tech 102-80 (Nov. 17).

Dynamic duo: Freshman David Humphries (Adelaide, Australia) scored 35 points with 12 rebounds and 7 assists in the win over Quakerdale. Sophomore Chris Davis (Colorado Springs, Col.) scored 33 points with 6 steals and 6 rebounds against Quakderdale. Against Milwaukee Tech, Humphries scored 34 points to go with 11 rebounds and 4 assists. Davis scored 23 points with 5 rebounds, 4 steals and 3 assists.

Scoring in bunches: NIACC averages 89.1 points per game, which ranks 10th in the nation (NJCAA Div. II). The Trojans averaged 101.6 ppg. In their three wins last week.

NIACC leaders: Davis averages 20.8 points per game (second in the ICCAC) … Humphries averages 18.9 ppg. (4th in the ICCAC) … Mike Wagner (sophomore, LaPorte, Ind.) averages 11.4 ppg. … Matthew Don (freshman, London, England) averages 8.8 ppg. … Sam Skogen (freshman, Mason City, Iowa) averages 8.6 ppg … Humphries leads the league in rebounds (10.1 per game) … Davis leads league with 23 3-point goals and shares league lead with teammate sophomore Josiah Lee (Peyton, Col.) with 34 assists.

Climbing into the rankings: NIACC made its initial appearance in the NJCAA Division II poll at No. 11 last week.

Women’s basketball

What’s next: The NIACC women’s basketball team (2-4) returns to action Tuesday at home against Riverland Community College. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m. The Lady Trojans wrap up the November part of their schedule Monday, Nov. 26 at the Grand View junior varsity in Des Moines.

Last time out: NIACC downed Milwaukee Tech 110-54 on Nov. 17 at the Dale Howard Classic in Iowa Falls. The Grand View junior varsity stopped the Lady Trojans 62-55 on Nov. 16.

Stat stuffers: Chelsey Jacox (freshman, Plymouth, Minn.) scored 16 points with 11 assists and 7 rebounds against Milwaukee Tech … Also against Milwaukee Tech, Lashae Brooks (freshman, Nett Lake, Minn.) scored 16 points and grabbed 13 rebounds … Jessica Rogers (freshman, Osage, Ia.) scored 17 points … Emily Bell (freshman, Bishop Garrigan, Algona, Ia.) scored 17 points with 3 assists.

Wrestling

What’s next: The NIACC wrestling team returns to action Dec. 1 at the Simpson College Invitational in Indianola.

Last time out: Basil Minto, who is ranked No. 2 by the NJCAA Wrestling Coaches Assocation, won the 184-pound title at the Coe College Invitational on Saturday. Minto (sophomore, Cape Coral, Fla., topped Coe’s Ryan Sheldon 5-3 in the finals. Parker Sturges (freshman, Mason City, Ia.) was sixth at 165 pounds and Shakheim Chapman (freshman, Gumee, Ill.) was sixth at 197 pounds.

For the record: Minto is 6-1 … Sam Solis (freshman, Clarion, Ia.) is 8-4 at 141 pounds … Chapman is 7-4 … Alex Stockton (freshman, Gardner, Ia.) is 5-3 at 285 pounds … Sha-Keno Jenkins (freshman, Ellenwood, Ga.) is 5-4 at 149 pounds.
