I do not live in Clear Lake, but I give them a lot of credit. The last 10 days, including the 4th were a riot over there. Live music everyday and night, bike races, carnival, food stands, and tons and tons of very afordable cold beer. Lots of fun.
It appears the city of Clear Lake understands you can alow people to have some good clean fun, WITHOUT a cop on every corner, or going through the crowd rousting people. Mason City has a lid on fun!!! If you have a beer in public, you are looked at like a crook! I wonder why nobody shows up at down town events?
Lead on Clear Lake, I am glad to spend money to be allowed to have a little fun!
What the ad failed to mention is the high number of sex offenders residing in Clear Lake for it’s size. Maybe that’s part of the “Sexy” in the ad.

Yea, right! Here is how these things work. Someone from CL paid cash as a nomination fee for an award offered by a tourism trade association. In some cases, only a few and sometimes just one community submits a nomination. The association sends out a media release and it is picked up as web content. Hence, it is then released to the local media. These things are a “ponzi scheme” as a revenue generator for a tourism trade association and that’s it. Oh, and the locals get to pat themselves on the back and congratulate each other for a perceived job well done!
You are 100% correct. This hasn’t been the first bogus ad for Clear Lake via deceitful methods.
I think the same thing must have applied when Clear Lake won the top beaches in USA Today several weeks back.
Geez. It sounds like a lot of jealousy and sour grapes to me. Things are that bad in Mason that you can’t even be happy for a neighboring town that gets a mention in the national press?
