Three people were killed and five others wounded in shootings across the city Friday night, according to authorities.
Two people were found dead inside a Woodlawn home in the 6500 block of South Kenwood Avenue after police were called to the scene following a report of a man barricading himself inside, Chicago police said. Police are still gathering details about that incident.
Two 17-year-old boys were shot, one fatally, about 2:30 a.m. on Millard Avenue just north of 16th Street in the Lawndale neighborhood, police said. Circumstances surrounding the shooting weren’t clear. One victim was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he later died, and the other was taken to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County, police said.
A crowd surrounded and hassled paramedics at the scene and they couldn’t drive the ambulance away, police said. Paramedics called “10-1,” a distress call for first responders, which prompted police from across the district and a neighboring district to race to the area. Paramedics loaded both victims into a single ambulance and drove a few blocks away to stabilize them before transferring one to a different ambulance so they could go to different hospitals.
About 2:50 a.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the mouth on the 6500 block of South Carpenter Street in the Englewood neighborhood, police said. He’s in stable condition at Holy Cross Hospital.
Two men, 26 and 27, were shot about 10:30 p.m. on the 5300 block of South Justine Street in the Back of the Yards neighborhood, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said. The older man was shot in the head and taken to Stroger hospital in critical condition. The younger was taken to Holy Cross, in stable condition, with a wounded arm.
About an hour before that, a 15-year-old boy apparently shot himself in the leg on the 2500 block of West 63rd Street in the Chicago Lawn neighborhood. He walked into Holy Cross about 9:35 p.m., Alfaro said. He’s in good condition.
