LEVELLAND, Texas – NIACC’s Tanesha Edmond (So., St. Elizabeth, Jamaica) sits in first place in the heptathlon after day one of the NJCAA National Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
Edmond was first in the high jump, second in the 100-meter hurdles, and third in both the shot put and the 200-meter dash, giving her 3074 points. Only Iowa Central’s Shawanna Steplight, who has 3006, is within 300 points of Edmond.
The last three events of the heptathlon are the long jump, javelin, and 800-meter run. All will take place on Wednesday.
The Trojans also had a pair of throwers compete on Tuesday. Emily Burchett (Fr., Mayview, MO) finished 14th in the women’s hammer throw with a toss of 40.97 meters (134’5”), and Lance Maxwell (So., Racine, WI) was 15th in the men’s hammer throw with a 42.60 meter (139’9”) mark.
There are no 10,000-meter run results available at this time. Anna Buenneke (So., Hazelton, IA) was in the women’s race, and Trent Smith (Fr., Charles City, IA) and Cody Manchester (So., Mason City, IA) were in the men’s race.
NIACC will have a busy day Wednesday as several individuals and relay teams are scheduled to compete.
