ESTHERVILLE, Iowa – NIACC baseball bounced back from being swept by Iowa Lakes on Friday by shutting the Lakers out on Saturday during a 5-0, 9-0 Saturday sweep.

Pitchers Joey Reed (Fr., Lindstrom, MN), Tim Black (Fr., Mount Hope, Ontario), and Kyle Moses (So., Saint Ansgar, IA) combined to give up only five hits during two games.  They also combined for 16 strikeouts, with 10 of those coming from Black during game two.

Reynaldo Sala (Fr., Santiago, Dominican Republic) had three RBIs in the games, while Tyler Peterson (So., Eden Prairie, MN) went 4-for-6 while scoring three runs in the doubleheader.   Jose Perez (Fr., Trujillo, Alto, Puerto Rico) also had a solid day at 4-for-7 with an RBI.

The seventh-ranked Trojans (25-8, 8-4 in the ICCAC) had 10 hits in game one while Reed (4-3) pitched a two-hitter and struck out six.  Hunter King (Fr., Mason City, IA) hit the game’s only homerun.  The Trojans scored two in the second and one in each of the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings.

NIACC picked it up offensively in game two with 17 hits off Laker pitching.  Sala, Peterson, and Nick Tillo (So., Sioux City, IA) led NIACC hitting with three hits each in game two.  Sala, Tillo, Osvaldo Marin (So., Carolina, Puerto Rico), and Nate Pilacinski (So., Gaylord, MN) all had two RBI in the game as well.

Black (3-0) pitched six innings and walked only one Laker.

Like the first game, NIACC scored in four innings.  They led 2-0 after the first, scored three in fourth, and two in both the fifth and seventh innings.

NIACC will return home to play a non-conference doubleheader against Century College (MN) on Wednesday starting at 2 p.m.
